I discovered something interesting while scrolling around Instagram on my lunch hour today: The 24 in 48 Readathon!

Sure I had fewer than 12 hours to prepare, but I figured, why not!? So here we are a couple hours out & I’m so excited to probably fail. I’ve got a hike planned for tomorrow morning and laundry to do this weekend. We’ll see if I can squeeze 24 hours of reading in there somewhere. Even if I can’t log all 24 hours, it’ll be good to get a good chunk of reading done. My TBR pile, is all stacked up and ready for midnight.

First up? Some middle grade! Me and Marvin Gardens by Amy Serig King

Wish me luck y’all!

Greetings, fellow book and/or beer followers,

Thanks for visiting our blog. We’re Elizabeth, Sarah, and Rebecca – three babes from New York. Two of us are youth services librarians, three of us like books and beer. We all met at a local book club a few years ago and we’d go out after every meeting to get together, drink some beer, and have a laid-back, fun, boozy discussion. This podcast is us bringing our discussions to you! We’re going to be reading a wide range of books from children’s books to adult literature. We may even read a picture book or two, which we’re sure will make for some interesting beer pairings. 🙂

Currently, we are preparing to officially release Episode 1 of our podcast! We’ll be discussing Wonder, by R.J. Palacio (Knopf Books for Young Readers). We chose this book because we all heard great things about it and we’re looking forward to seeing the movie when it comes out in November.

Wonder is about a kid named Auggie, who was born with a severe facial deformity that often frightens people. The book accounts his experience of his first time attending mainstream school in New York City, where he learns to cope with difficult new situations and new people.

Each of us chose a beer that we feel represented the book in some way. As you may already know, we are not beer experts. For this episode, we thought it would be great to choose beers whose names reminded us of the book. Otherwise, Rebecca would have chosen a very typical wheat beer and probably wouldn’t have grabbed a imperial stout!

As you can see, we chose a nice variety of libations. Coincidentally, all of them are from New York! Elizabeth chose Flower Power IPA from Ithaca Beer Company, Sarah chose Bad Seed IPC from our local friends at Bad Seed, and Rebecca chose Thick Mint Imperial Stout from Southern Tier.

For the latest updates, follow us on Instagram, Twitter, Untappd, and visit this page often! We’ll be posting about what we’re reading, what we’re drinking, and what we’re reading next!
